Syria Drove Brexit

The Brexit vote is over. The United Kingdom, or Great Britain will end up becoming little England and Wales.

The answer to why this happened has come out. The public in England and Wales especially, have been mortified by immigration to the UK, particularly from Muslim nations. As news article after news article is printed we find that “The core of the answer is deceptively simple: British voters are pushing back against a huge surge in immigration that’s taken place over the past decade. This, more than anything else, drove Britons to support Brexit.”

One serious issue that emerged in the run up to the referendum was the possibility of Turkey joining the EU. With something like 4 million Syrian refugees holed up in Turkey, on top of ISIS terrorism all over Europe which we all know has been fed and supported by Turkey (and financed by countries like Qatar) … ordinary Brits have become mortified.

Immigration to Britain in the past decade from other EU member nations has reached almost 8.5 Million! In a country of 50 million, that almost 20%!! 1 in 5 people on the streets in the UK is a recent immigrant!

But the straw that broke the ‘camel’s back’ – was surely Syria. EU commissioners had mandated massive ‘absorption’ of Syrian refugees. Every time a new country joins the EU, there is a spike in immigrants to the UK, and surely Turkish membership would flood the UK with millions of Turks, Kurds, Syrians … you name it!

This came to dominate the case for leaving in Britain. “The topic of migration has been central to the referendum debate,” Will Somerville, a senior fellow at the Migration Policy Institute, wrote before the vote.

This influx of immigrants has led to a major spike in anti-immigrant sentiment — today, 77 percent of Brits today believe that immigration levels should be reduced. This has translated into rising support for anti-immigrant parties and politicians, in particular the UK Independence Party (UKIP) and its leader, Nigel Farage. UKIP got 4 million votes in the 2015 national election, the third-largest national vote total in the country.

Here we had Britain scheming in back rooms in Washington to manipulate U.S. policy – and splinter the middle east! After grabbing Iraq’s major oil fields in the South for British oil companies, (and basically having the Americans pay for it); the Brits were now scheming to get a pipeline across Syria to Turkey from their gas fields in Qatar! Syria’s splintering was the plan. And a $400 Billion dollar a year gas export business to Europe (via Turkey) was the end in mind. Only to find Britain itself is about to be splintered.

The irony is incredible. Britain was scheming to splinter Syria, Iran … Iraq … and meanwhile it has created the conditions of its own break up.

For sure, dropping birth rates across Europe, and aging populations –  has meant that governments in Western Europe have been looking for creative ways to bring in young immigrants to support their massive entitlement programs.

At the same time – Europe has been working to undermine Russia’s energy monopoly to Western Europe. Kicking Russia out of Syria was too seductive a possibility to pass up.  So they put in place their usual program – create instability somewhere and then poach Syria’s best and brightest – doctors, engineers, architects … professionals!

But the tables were turned on them. Assad’s opposition turned out to be far worse than Assad himself. And Assad’s regime with the assistance of Russia and Iran actually drove out millions of Sunni Syrians … used the war as an opportunity to conduct ethnic ‘cleansing’! Shiite Syrians (Alawites etc.) now form a majority of Syrians. That was not the case 10 years ago. Iran now has a ‘continuous Shiite land bridge’ to Israel across Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.

As the “west” lost confidence in the Syrian opposition (as they did with other U.S. allies: Saddam Hussein, and the Taliban) and turned on their “ISIS allies”! ISIS in turn, has felt betrayed and started a massive campaign of terrorism (like Osama Bin Laden) against the West.

In essence the tables have turned on Europe especially. These policies designed to improve western security have in fact created greater insecurity. Brexit is the start of this process… not the end.

The news this morning is that Scotland now wants a referendum for Independence. The Northern Irish want a referendum to join Ireland. Then we have Sweden threatening to leave. Greece threatening to leave. The splintering of the UK and Europe is a real possibility.

And it was driven by U.S. and European policies in the Middle East and especially Syria. How incredibly ironic.

But this splintering is only the start. Overnight, $6 Trillion of value was wiped out of global stock markets. The British pound has dropped by over 5%. Very soon, major global companies will be moving their European offices out of the U.K. And there will be an emigration wave out of Britain. London will be de-emphasized as a European financial center, with major firms moving to Paris and Frankfurt. I think the Europeans would relish Britain’s demise too. Overnight, the British economy dropped from 5th to 6th largest economy globally – with France rising to 5th. In the long run, a United Europe will outshine the UK, and completely undermine British prosperity. All new investment will be go there – it has to. It’s a much bigger and stronger market than the U.K. And very soon, there will not be a U.K. when Scotland splinters.

The Brexit vote is a vote for British suicide. And quite honestly nothing could be better for the world.

Britain has not been a force for good in the recent past. British greed, British ruthlessness … have all led to misery and costs in human lives. I don’t believe ordinary Brits really know what the consequences of their government’s policies have been … just like they didn’t understand the consequences of their vote.

The world can only hope that Britain will become so small, inconsequential and marginalized and not even invited for input in meetings to develop “Western Policies”. Hopefully the UK, or Great Britain as it is known today will die. And that would be good.
